General Ledger Accountant - Remote (Washington)

Overview


Doyon Government Group (DGG) provides design-build and general construction services for demolition, new construction, renovations, repairs, and civil projects at government-owned facilities and military installations.


The General Ledger Accountant is responsible for performing core accounting functions, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and supporting compliance with internal and external reporting requirements. This role plays a key part in the monthly close process, reconciliations, and analysis, while also contributing to budget preparation, long-term planning, and financial initiatives. The position is ideal for a mid-career accounting professional with experience across general ledger functions, multi-entity accounting, and state/local tax matters.


Remote position, 30 hours per week; preference for candidates near Federal Way, Washington


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS



  • Prepare and post journal entries (AJEs) with appropriate supporting documentation

  • Perform monthly account reconciliations and investigate/resolving discrepancies

  • Perform accounting activities across multiple companies and states, ensuring compliance with varying regulations and requirements

  • Maintain and track fixed assets, including additions, disposals, depreciation, and reconciliations

  • Manage lease accounting in compliance with applicable standards

  • Assist with preparation and research for basic state and local taxes (SALT)

  • Prepare gross receipts and other state activity state tax returns (monthly, quarterly, annually)

  • Contribute to month-end close and reporting processes

  • Internal and external reporting of financials for corporate consolidation

  • Prepare reports used for Board of Directors meetings

  • Assist with the development of budgets and 5-year strategic financial plans

  • Conduct various financial analyses to support decision-making and identify cost savings opportunities

  • Support audits, ensuring accurate documentation and timely responses to auditor inquiries

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with finance and operations to streamline processes and improve reporting accuracy

  • Additional duties as assigned


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES



  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and general ledger accounting principles

  • Solid knowledge of fixed assets and lease accounting

  • Familiarity with SALT tax concepts (compliance and research), especially in multi-state environments

  • Experience with multi-entity accounting and consolidations

  • Proficiency with financial reporting systems

  • Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, modeling, etc.)

  • Analytical mindset with ability to identify process improvements and cost savings

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for preparing reports and presenting to executive management

  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and problem-solving ability

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment

QUALIFICATIONS



  • Bachelors degree in accounting, Finance, or equivalent

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in general ledger accounting or related finance roles

  • Experience with corporate consolidations, month-end closing, and reconciliations

  • Prior experience working in a multi-entity, multi-state environment

  • Must have experience supporting general ledger accounting for multiple small to mid-sized entities

  • Exposure to budgeting and long-term financial planning

  • Prior experience in a mid-sized environment

  • CPA or progress toward CPA preferred but not required


SALARY & BENEFITS


Salary range for this position is $35.00-$42.00 per hour. Exact compensation will vary based on skills, experience, education, certifications, and work location. Employees are eligible to enroll in medical, vision, dental, flexible spending, employee assistance program, group and voluntary life and disability insurance and 401(k) retirement plan. Paid Time Off, 10 paid holidays, 5 bereavement and 10 jury duty paid leave.
