Summary

The Inclusion Director oversees a team of staff who provide direct support to campers who need extra support while at camp. They support mental, emotional and social health needs of campers, with the aim of helping everyone feel safe, happy, and comfortable while ensuring supervision and safety of campers. They supervise a small team of Camper Support Coordinators. The Inclusion Director is supervised by the Summer Program Director and performs other duties as assigned. Responsibilities

  • Supervise and assist with camper supervision. Ensure all staff account for campers and safety at all times, especially campers who need extra support.
  • Work closely with unit directors, medical team staff, and cabin counselors providing resources, suggestions, and direct support for campers needing extra attention due to behavior, health (mental and physical), or life circumstances.
  • Communicate with parents, guardians, or case workers to gain tips for working with specific campers and to provide updates on the campers experience.
  • Maintain detailed reports and records of work with campers, families, and staff.
  • Assist as a member of the leadership team with plans, schedules, and facilitation of developmentally appropriate program activities; organize and lead all-camp events.
  • Supervise seasonal staff by observing, coaching, and assisting with problem solving.
  • Provide leadership and supervision to developing teen leaders placed with the group.
  • Maintain safety and cleanliness standards; note individual camper/staff health needs daily; share cleaning duties with staff.
  • Communicate personal or camper/staff needs to supervisor promptly.
  • Maintain equipment in safe order; attend director meetings and trainings; follow YMCA policies including medical and corrective action, child abuse prevention, and emergencies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Position Requirements

  • Work or life experience or education in social work, mental health counseling or related fields is preferred
  • Bachelors degree in a relevant program or equivalent education/experience
  • Two years or more of related experience, with proven experience in training others
  • One or more years of experience with staff and volunteer supervision and program development
  • Experience with youth behavior management and child abuse prevention
  • Ability to relate to parents and campers professionally

Preferred Education And Experience

  • Current state-approved first aid certification
  • Current state-approved CPR certification
  • Masters degree in a relevant field
  • Experience with diverse populations and ability to speak additional languages is helpful
  • Experience with anti-racism practices and coalition building
