JOB TITLE: Early Childhood Center Para Educator

QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED required; must meet federal and state requirements for highly qualified; bilingual/bi-literate preferred; one year of successful, relevant, documented work or volunteer experience in a preschool or child care setting and a one-year certificate in the field of early childhood education or child development from an accredited public or private technical college or institution of higher education, or a high school diploma and Child Development Association (CDA) certificate. Must have current first aid/CPR, TB test, and food handler's card. Successfully pass a criminal history check

REPORTS TO: Early Childhood Director

JOB GOAL: To provide a meaningful and developmentally appropriate educational experience for young children and their families.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Assists individual students and small groups of children through instructional activities which have been planned, assigned and organized by the teaching staff.
2. Participates in lesson and classroom activity planning, assists in gathering materials relevant for use in units or topics of study.
3. Develop and maintain a positive classroom environment. Establish and maintain collaborative professional relationships with others.
4. Teach students to set and maintain high standards of classroom behavior by assisting the lead teacher in developing a written classroom plan that is connected to the school wide behavior expectations (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports).
5. Assists in supervision of children during play periods and classroom activities.
6. Assists in the movement of children as is necessary within the school building, on the school grounds, or on field trips.
7. Assist in self-help skills such as toileting (e.g. diapering, catheterization) and feeding, as necessary.
8. Be able to bend, kneel, squat, twist, turn, and extended arm use involving various weights frequently.
9. Be on foot the majority of the work shift.
10. Must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints.
11. Assists in the supervision of target students in the classroom or learning center.
12. Maintains positive relationships with parents of children enrolled in the program.
13. Attends parent meetings.
14. Participate in district-wide improvement e?orts/district initiatives.
15. Engage in professional learning and implement strategies to support the learning needs of multilingual learners.
16. Performs rotating, non-instructional duties such as supervision of students during non-instructional time.
17. Assists in diagnosis of the needs of students in the program.
18. Assists in program home visits.
19. Other duties as assigned by the Early Childhood Center Director.

DUTIES NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR, BUT WILL ASSIST IN:
Developing lesson plans for students without the supervision of certificated staff.
Conferencing with teachers about student progress, although their input may be requested.
Establishing communication between parents and school on student progress.
Evaluating student progress.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
LENGTH: 190 days (includes 10 paid holidays).
SCHEDULE: As determined by the immediate supervisor.
SALARY AND BENEFITS: As determined by the Board of Directors, state law, local board policy and PSE bargaining agreement.
EVALUATION: By the Early Childhood Director and Elementary Principal by May 30 each
year.
